Following the home education outcomes throughout high school, students do not typically receive the credits needed to attain an Alberta high school diploma. If a home education student wishes to earn a diploma, Connections For Learning offers two routes for doing so.
Route 1
High School Course Challenge Process
Route 2
Virtual/Distance Learning Module-based
- Students complete a short screening process, comprehensive review module and write a final exam (Grade 10 and 11) or diploma exam. The grade earned on the exam would be 100% of the course grade awarded. There is no cost to take this route.
- Students complete high school-level courses online through CFL with a certified teacher. Alternatively, the distance learning route is module based through the Outreach Centre, where courses are completed independently with access to a certified teacher for assistance and course work is submitted for grading. There is no cost to take this route if a student has not yet turned 20 by the first day of the school year.
