Grades 1-7 Summer School

Parkland School Division is excited to announce a summer school opportunity for students registered in Grades 1, 2, 3, 4. 5, 6 or 7  for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. Location for Summer School has yet to be determined.  It will either be in Spruce Grove or Stony Plain.

Registration for summer school is open April 7 and closes in early June. Summer School runs June 30 to July 11 (excluding July 1st & weekends) and offers academic mornings combined with active My Path programming for the afternoons.

Criteria for CFL Grades 1-7 Summer School Students & Parents

Students enrolled in the CFL Grades 1-7 Summer School should have the ability to:

  • Work successfully in multi-graded classes (eg. work independently, self start academic tasks)

  • Capacity to cooperate with and take direction from new adults and individuals from the community

  • Adjust quickly and be open to new learning opportunities

Considerations for Choosing the CFL Grades 1-7 Summer School Program

Before choosing to enroll their child in the  CFL Grades 1-7 Summer School Program, parents/guardians should consider the following:

  • Students work in a multi-graded classroom.

  • Students often collaborate with their grade-level peers, as well as with students in other grades.

  • The learning facility is designed with multiple exits and open-concept classrooms, with limited alternative learning spaces for one-on-one activities.

  • Multiple transitions happen within both the morning and afternoon programming requiring students to stay flexible and adjust independently.

  • Classes may involve levels of noise and movement

  • As it incorporates several cross-disciplinary projects, the CFL Grades 1-7 Summer School schedule is not exactly the same every day and is less well-suited to students who desire (or require) routine.

Morning Programming

Morning programming is selected from one of two academic options:

Schedules

Daily Schedule (8:30am-3pm)

Afternoon Activities

Please note that activities are subject to change based on participant numbers and program availability. Group size is approximately 20 students, so the activity schedule will vary for multiple groups.

Things to Note:

Program schedule may include activities such as swimming, dance, gymnastics, soccer, sportball, archery, basketball, kangoo, and more! Each group will do a different activity (or two) each afternoon, depending on program logistics.

For example, on-site activities may be 60 minutes so groups may do two activities, but off-site activities will be 90 minutes and include 30 minutes of transportation and transition time.

A full program schedule will be provided and posted once registrations are completed.

Registration & Fees

Registration for summer school opens April 7th. The cost for summer school per student is $375

The intent of the early years summer school program is to provide additional support and intervention for students who it would benefit the most. The program is open to all students entering grades 1-7 however, priority for student acceptance will be based on the current level of academic functioning. PSD students and students achieving below grade-level expectations will be given priority for acceptance.

Completing registration for the PSD Summer School Program indicates the student wishes to apply for the program—it does not guarantee the student’s acceptance into the program. Program acceptance will be confirmed  from PSD in a follow up email.

Registrations will be processed in the order that they are received. In order to run a class grouping a minimum number of students needs to be reached. We encourage you to register as soon as possible. Students who register later will be put on a waiting list and will be contacted should a spot become available.

Summer School is a program of choice. In order to be successful in the program, students must display a high standard of independence, work ethic, responsibility and engagement. Our goal is for every student to be successful; however, we know that this program may not be the best fit for every student.
